One of the really pleasant ministry opportunities we were asked to do was to spend a day at the Mother's Union in Kanungu. The Mother's Union was started just two years ago by some British women who brought over knitting machines, needles, yarn, and sewing machines to start up a vocational training center for women in the area. A couple of my teammates are knitters and we decided to spend our day there teaching the women how to knit. This worked out really good because they had the supplies but had not yet learned to knit on needles. They had done all their work on the machines which are manually operated, but will make a sweater in less than a day. 










After a quick refresher course, I was up and running on my own set of knitting needles and over the course of two days created my very own stocking cap to keep me warm in Ireland. My maternal grandmother taught me how to knit when I was very young and this experience brought back fond memories of a time so long ago. After everyone picked up the skill of knitting we spent the rest of the time chatting about life and singing songs together. It was a nice time of encouragement and some relationship building.
